Because the heart of all communication is through eye contact, the appearance of the eyes is of critical importance to both women and men. Extra skin and fat can give others the perception that a person is tired, or even sad, when that is not the case. These conditions can add years to a person's appearance or, in severe cases, can impair vision. Surgical goals typically are to achieve a clean and natural look with a fully functional eyelid.

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is the preferred treatment for removing under-eyelid bags or the redundant skin and fat of the upper lids.

Dr. Leigh's operative plan is meticulously drawn out prior to surgery and checked and re-checked to achieve the ultimate results. Eyelid surgery is performed under sedation and local anesthesia in the fully accredited in-house surgical facility at Edina Plastic Surgery. Incisions are made along the natural lines of the eyelids resulting in minimal scarring hidden in the natural eyelid folds.

After an eyelift, most patients are back to their normal routine within a week, although complete recovery may take several weeks. Swelling, bruising and some discomfort are part of the recovery process, but are can be minimalized or alleviated with cold compresses and appropriate medications.
