Women with very large, pendulous breasts may experience a variety of medical problems caused by the excessive weight. These problems can range from back and neck pain or skin irritation, to skeletal deformities and even breathing problems. Unusually large breasts can make a woman or teenage girl feel extremely self-conscious and may limit her activities. Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is designed for such women.

Dr. Leigh has done hundreds and hundreds of these procedures. In order to achieve the desired results, he develops a very exact and customized plan and draws it directly on the patient's skin prior to the procedure. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the dark skin surrounding the nipple. The goal of breast reduction is to achieve the look of smaller, better shaped breasts in proportion to the rest of the body.

General anesthesia is used, and the procedure takes on average, about 90 minutes. There is very little risk of blood transfusion and drains are typically not used. This is an outpatient procedure that typically allows the patient to return to work within in one week with some lifting restrictions. Scars will fully mature and lighten in approximately 6-12 months.

Dr. Leigh can provide potential patients with specific information on how he would proceed according to their particular situation. He will advise patients as to whether they are legitimate insurance candidates and will write a letter to their insurance carrier.
