Liposuction body sculpting (or suction-assisted lipectomy) has become one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today and Dr. Leigh is an expert in these procedures. Proven safe, with minimal scarring and outstanding results, liposuction is the preferred method for removing fat from the hips, thighs, buttocks, and midriff, as well as areas of the face, neck and arms.

Liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction, but can be very effective in removing fat from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise programs and to achieve a 'balanced' physique. Suction-assisted lipectomy typically is performed under adequate anesthesia to allow the best results possible. This usually is general anesthesia, but for smaller areas, a sedation and/or local anesthetic may be used.

The tumescent technique is used in all cases for improved shaping control, reduced bruising, and increased comfort postoperatively. Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction is available and is used for more difficult areas such as hip rolls in men.

After Dr. Leigh has discussed the surgical plan with the patient, the contours are drawn directly on the problem areas. The procedure is done with a series of cannulae in different sizes. This approach keeps the risk of contour problems to a minimum, yet obtains the optimum shaping goals.

As with all body contouring procedures, the ultimate quality of the result depends upon a common sense approach to diet and exercise by the patient to maintain or even improve on results obtained. During a free consultation Dr. Leigh discusses patients' goals and objectives and will carefully describe the procedure that he recommends.
